LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 22, 2014) – Mercury Insurance today announced that its auto insurance rates for New Jersey drivers are being reduced an average of three percent. The reduction immediately applies to new customers and policy renewals beginning May 28, and will save Mercury policyholders an average of nearly $80 a year.
“We're putting more than $1.5 million back in the pockets of New Jersey drivers,” said Robert Houlihan, Mercury vice president and chief product officer. “Mercury Insurance is voluntarily reducing its rates to help consumers because we believe affordable insurance should be available for everyone.”
Mercury’s rate reduction applies to all drivers who get Private Passenger Automobile liability, comprehensive or collision coverages. Mercury operates through a network of 528 independent insurance agents in New Jersey. Drivers can also go to www.mercuryinsurance.com to get a quote.
“Drivers may be able to save more than the average percentage we’re reporting based on various rating factors and the amount of coverage they purchase from Mercury,” said Houlihan. “The rate reductions can also be combined with other discounts like good driver, multi-policy and our Auto+Home discount that could save customers up to 15 percent more. The savings add up really fast.”
Houlihan offers these tips when shopping for auto insurance:
- Talk to a local Mercury agent. Agents can help uncover additional savings and tailor a coverage package customized to meet your needs.
- Insurance can be complicated, so it’s important to get expert advice from a professional local independent Mercury agent. They know the local area and can help you get the right coverage at the best possible price.
- Shop around to see what’s available. Your insurance agent can do this for you, or you can do it yourself online.
- Remember, price is only part of the equation. Be sure to select a company with a solid financial background that will be there for you when you need to make a claim. Mercury has been named one of “America’s Most Trustworthy Companies” by Forbes Magazine in 2014 and has earned A+ ratings from A.M. Best and Fitch, two of the industry’s leading independent rating agencies.
Mercury also offers homeowners insurance and mechanical breakdown protection coverages in New Jersey.
