LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 1, 2011) – Mercury Insurance has signed an agreement to sponsor LA Kings hockey for a fifth consecutive year, making this the company’s longest running sponsorship.
“Our partnership with the Kings is one of the pillars of our sponsorship strategy – it’s a perfect fit,” said Erik Thompson, Mercury advertising director. “The Kings are a great organization to work with and have an extremely loyal and passionate fan base. Win or lose, Kings fans support their team and regularly sell-out Staples Center. We want to tap into that passion to promote Mercury’s products and services, which is why we are more active than most sponsors when it comes to implementing our programs.”
Mercury’s sponsorship is built on a promotion that will provide fans with a pair of tickets to an upcoming game if they complete an online Mercury auto insurance quote at www.mercuryinsurance.com/kings. It will be supported through a variety of media, including in-stadium events, online banner ads, TV spots and live radio reads.
“Mercury is very creative when it comes to activating our fan base,” said Nam McGrail, director of partnership activation for the Kings. “This promotion is going to be very popular with our fans, especially since tickets are very difficult to get this year.”
This year’s sponsorship also includes, for the first time, support for Mercury’s independent agents, as they will be giving away Kings jerseys to fans who purchase a Mercury policy from them. “It’s a great opportunity for us get involved with the team and the fans,” said Harry Crusberg of Crusberg Decker Insurance.
Mercury is utilizing social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to help reach LA Kings fans and tell them about the promotions, as well as its “Don’t Text and Drive” campaign, which features high-scoring Kings center Anze Kopitar.
