Mercury Insurance Group emergency response teams have mobilized to support their policyholders and are already processing claims resulting from Hurricane Katrina. Mercury policyholders with questions regarding their coverage for damage caused by the hurricane should call Mercury's toll-free claims hotline, 800-987-6000.

Working closely with Florida's Department of Insurance, Mercury's response teams will continue to deploy to impacted areas, establishing computerized, mobile claims centers at locations to be designated by the Department.

As it becomes safe, Mercury staff appraisers will be canvassing damaged areas in easily identifiable claims response vehicles, literally making house calls and issuing checks to its impacted policyholders -- and, in some cases, immediately replacing damaged vehicle windows.

Hurricanes often cause damage to vehicles; Hurricane Andrew resulted in over 150,000 automobile insurance claims, and once again many Floridians are dealing with hurricane-damaged vehicles.

Mercury Insurance's "Advice On Hurricane Katrina Auto Insurance Claims" Call in your auto insurance claim ASAP and find out:

   1. Is your vehicle covered, including your motor home?
   2. How does your auto insurance company do damage appraisals?
   3. Can you receive a check immediately?
   4. Can any vehicle repair be done on-site at your home?
   5. Is my vehicle covered for flood and wind damage?

Mercury Insurance suggests those with damaged vehicles "Assess The Damage"

   1. If the vehicle is covered with debris, clean it up and note details
of damage to windows, tires and the body of the car, including the
       roof.
   2. Don't attempt to drive a damaged vehicle.
   3. Cover any broken glass to minimize additional water damage.

If your vehicle is totaled, Mercury Insurance suggests you ask:

   1. Will your insurance company send a tow truck?
   2. Will your insurance company pay for a rental car?
